With only 'O' level Art well behind her, Sarah took up watercolour painting in 1989, learning under Bridget Woods in Chichester and in France, Eric Ritchie in Edinburgh, Eileen Gardner in Glenrothes, Jan Fisher in Pitlochry and Heather Holley in Wiltshire.

She completed a painting course of the Open College of the Arts under the tuition of Jacqueline Watts in Edinburgh in 1993. She paints mainly landscapes, including subjects requested by clients, and she has completed a number of commissions for "portraits of clients' homes".
