My work is about atmosphere and changing light. I live near the Thames in Fulham and the ever changing skies and reflections on the Thames are my inspiration. Recently I have been working on atmospheric scenes of hills in Ireland , Spain , Germany and Scotland. I find an ordinary view can be completly transformed by light. I work from drawings and notes and some photography. Before painting I make several trips at different times of day and get to know the area intimately so when it comes to using my large brushes in my studio I paint by instinct and memory helped by listening to music, and as a result I often make a note of the score at the back of the canvas. I prefer to work on fine linen and use good quality paints. Each painting is approached completely differently: that's what makes painting so fascinating . |
